Got busy yesterday and totally blew off blog posting. I notice that the world is still turning, though, so apparently no harm done.

Why the Oldest Music Posts on This Blog Don't Work

When I started this blog, I would post music tracks on an online service called Vox, then write a blog post here that would link to that entry on Vox. To make a long story short, over the years Vox has changed so much that the links now fail completely. A while back I asked in a post if there was any interest in my making an effort to fix those links. No one responded, so I never did it. Since Vox was a free service, there was no room for complaint when it stopped working.

Some day if I have a lot of time I may try to edit those posts and get them to work again, but until then anyone interested in exploring the archives will have to deal with a certain amount of frustration. If you come across an old link that you're really interested in, put a comment on that post and I'll try to fix things. I get an e-mail telling me about any comment that's added to any blog post, no matter how old, so just comment on that specific item and I'll be alerted.

The View From the Booster Rocket

A Note on the New York Times Paywall

As of today, the New York Times website will be far more restrictive in how much access it allows for free. Since I sometimes link to the Times, this will have an impact on how much I do so in the future. I also don't know how this will affect existing links; in other words, I don't know if the new rules apply only to new pages, or if any links I've made in the past will be affected. But it's out of my hands, and while I'll feel bad if the Times becomes much less useful (as seems likely), there's little to do but see how this change plays itself out. For the record, I think it's a mistake, and that there must be better ways for them to make money from their online presence. I regret this decision, but it's their decision.

John Lennon appeared to me in a dream. He talked about things he'd been watching on earth since he died. He said that he really liked compact discs for their sound quality and size, but that he hated bonus tracks on classic LPs, because they ruined the structure of the album. He may be dead, but he still knows a lot about music.
